Sugar Waxing

Sugar Waxing vs. Regular Waxing

Sugar wax is only made out of sugar, water and lemon juice, it is hypoallergenic, it is applied at body temperature and will not burn the skin or cause redness, it causes less strain on the skin since the hair is removed with the hair growth, it only clings to dead skin when removed, it can eventually lead to permanent hair removal, the list goes on and on!

Regular wax is made with chemical ingredients, mostly resins and preservatives, it must be heated to high temperature and may cause burning or scarring and redness, it can break follicles and cause ingrown hairs due to removing against the hair growth, wax pots, strips and sticks cause waste, the wax clings to live skin and tears it off, it can leave you sore, etc.

Benefits of Sugar Waxing

Thinner & Finer Hair – hair will begin to have smaller more shallow roots, over time the follicle will no longer produce a blood supply, which means hair removal will become more permanent. Look forward to soft outgrowth and no more rough stubble! 

Get Glowing – Sugaring hair removal exfoliates the skin making your skin radiant. Wonderful to brighten tattoos and to remove dry skin cells. 

Reduce Ingrown Hair – No more razor burn, bumps or cuts. Hair will take 3-4 weeks to grow back and over time it becomes semi-permanent. 

Less Irritation – Enjoy quick recovery time with sugaring, sugar is much gentler than shaving or waxing.  Contains 100% organic ingredients sugar, lemon juice, and water that’s it! Allergen free ingredients, do check for citrus allergies. 

Less Painful – Sugar does not stick to live skin cells, and is never heated, if warmed temperatures are below body temp 75-85 degrees Fahrenheit, will never burn the skin.

What to know before Sugaring

Before Sugaring Care

Allergies, Medications, Supplements - Disclose all allergies prior to service during intake. If you are taking any medications including over the counter pain killers like Advil or Tylenol, you can have adverse reactions to sugaring thinning of the skin, dehydration and bruising. Supplements like vitamin C can thin your blood increasing chances of bruising.

Topical Exfoliants – STOP use of Retin A, Retinol, Retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, Enzymes, Fruit Acids, Acids and Peels 7 days prior to your service, after the acclimation period some sugaring can be done without a break, please ask your doctor for approval. Faces are particularly susceptible to scabbing or lifting if topical exfoliants have been used right before hair removal.

Hair Growth - The hair must be at least 1/8th of an inch long or have 1-3 weeks outgrowth to be removed successfully.

Patch Test – Particularly for a full face sugaring, we recommend you do a 24-hour patch test on a small area to see how your skin reacts.

*Scrub or Soak - Before your appointment scrub with an oil free scrub, we recommend our SugarLove Organic Sugar Scrub, 2-4 times a week. Alternatively you may take a soak, 20 minute baths to exfoliate the entire body, do not use oils in your bath right before your appointment.

Freshly Showered - Come to your appointment right after your shower, clean off ALL oils, creams and lotions. Use a recommended product in the shower to prepare the skin. Some scrubs or soaps may leave unwanted residue.

No Sun Bathing - No sun bathing, tanning booths, or spray tanning, 72 hours prior to your appointment. We recommend spray tanning 48-72hrs after sugaring.

Loose Clothes – Bring a clean set of loose clothes to wear after your service. Tight or sweaty clothes will cause ingrown hairs and breakouts.

Getting a Brazilian or have Thick Hair? You should trim all dense areas down to 1/4th of an inch, do not trim too short.

After Sugaring Care

Clothing - Wear loose clean clothing, especially for Brazilians. Friction, sweat or heat will create ingrown hairs, bumps, redness and irritation. Avoid dirty tight clothes, dirty undies, skinny jeans, leggings or stockings. Try wearing clean loose fitting pants, skirts, shirts, and no underwear after a Brazilian. 

Be Gentle - The first 24-48 hours you should treat your skin differently, it needs protection and rest. The skin is considered irritated until the tender feeling subsides. 

Protecting The Skin - Sugared areas need protection for 24-48hrs. You may see redness similar to a light sunburn, red speckling where the hair root was removed, and sometimes hives. The skin feels more tender than usual to the touch. If you have been sugared for a long time or have remarkable skin recovery time, it may only take 6-12 hours. 

Always Avoid - fragrance/perfume, scented lotions, heavy essential oils and perfumes. This can cause ingrown hairs if used at any time, ask your professional if you have doubts about a product you are using. 

Shower - Not immediately, wait 6-12 hours at least, if you get sweaty rinse immediately with cool water no soap, use approved soaps only. After 12-24 hours, take a luke warm shower, using Jessa’s Aloe + C Cleanser, Sea-Rose Cleanser, Blu Bar, or other Jessa body washes. Avoid hot showers/baths, any soap with fragrance/perfume, harsh soap, scrubs will all cause side effects like: hives, redness, pustules, breakouts & ingrown hairs. Do not over stimulate the skin let it recover. 

Hydrate - After your first shower apply approved moisturizer and bump reducer. We recommend: Coconut + Oxygen Balm, 10% Oxygen + Sunflower Elixir, Squalene, or Ingrown Smooth Balm (wait 72hrs). 

Exfoliate - 48-72 hours after hair removal, prevent the buildup of dead skin cells, which can cause ingrown hairs. We recommend using our SugarLove Sugar Scrubs. 

Home Care Program - Prevent ingrown hairs before they start, save yourself from unsightly scaring.

1. Take it Easy - for 24-48 hours.

2. Exfoliate - 3-5 times a week exfoliate with one of our SugarLove Sugar Scrubs or cleansers with added Pumice or Jojoba Beads, wait 72 hours to begin scrubbing.

3. Tone - Use our Anti-Oxidant Blemish Toner or Cucumber + Aloe Toner to spritz the area before application of your hydration step.

4. Hydrate & Protect - Apply your hydration/bump prevention every day. We recommend, 10% Oxygen + Sunflower Elixir, Coconut + Oxygen Balm, Squalene or Ingrown Balm (wait 72hrs). During the day time wear the Zinc + Titanium Mineral Cream or Serum on top of your hydration step. 

Underwear/Under Garments - Spandex or synthetic fabrics cause a reaction on many skins, creating redness, itching, sores or ingrown hairs. Choose organic cotton, bamboo, hemp or other natural choices for undergarments or in high friction areas to avoid side effects.
